Two ways to reach Lampedusa
Lampedusa is Italy's southernmost island, closer to Africa than Sicily. Two main options: by plane, or by ferry from Porto Empedocle.
By plane — Lampedusa Airport (LMP)
The airport is only 2 km from the centre. In summer, direct flights from Milan, Rome, Bologna, Venice, Naples, Catania and Palermo. Easy Rent Lampedusa waits for you at the airport with your vehicle ready.
By ferry — from Porto Empedocle
The ferry departs from Porto Empedocle (Sicily). The crossing takes 8-9 hours, mostly overnight. Daily departures in peak season.
Upon arrival: getting around
Lampedusa is around 20 km² and to visit it fully you need a vehicle. Public transport is limited. The best option is to rent a car, scooter or Mehari with Easy Rent Lampedusa, a Lampedusa family business since 1995.
Practical tips
- 1Book flights or ferries well in advance, especially for July and August.
- 2Travel light to avoid baggage surcharges with low-cost airlines.
- 3Book your vehicle before departing: demand exceeds supply in summer.
- 4Always carry ID, driving licence and a payment method.
- 5Don't forget sunscreen: the sun is strong and shade on beaches is limited.
